Why We Exist

A look at some of the challenges we aim to solve and how we do it.

Why Dream Renewables Exists

At Dream Renewables, we exist because we believe that young people in Ghana are key to driving long-term, locally rooted solutions to the climate and energy challenges facing their communities. We’ve seen how local communities can lead practical clean‑energy projects that transform lives. But three big hurdles still stand in the way.

The Challenges We’re Here to Tackle

  • Youth Unemployment

Nearly one in five Ghanaian youth (ages 15–35) were neither working nor in school or training as of Q3 2023, leaving over 1.9 million young people without clear pathways to livelihoods. We’re here to change that by equipping them with hands-on skills in renewable energy.

  • Energy Poverty

Even today, about 10.5 percent of Ghanaians still lack any electricity connection, roughly 3.5 million people in rural and peri‑urban areas. Without power, kids can’t study after dark, clinics struggle to refrigerate vaccines and small businesses can’t compete.

  • Unreliable Electricity

Across communities, more than 60 percent of households report power cuts at least once a week and when the lights go out, they often stay off for 1-3 hours. These interruptions disrupt everything from healthcare to small‑scale agriculture and make it hard for families to plan their days.

What We’re Doing About It

We work with communities across Ghana, providing education, training, renewable energy systems and opportunities.

  • Hands‑On Skills Development

Our programmes bring together youth, women and community members from low‑income backgrounds to build and maintain solar systems, clean cookstoves, and micro‑grids. By learning through doing, participants gain the confidence and technical know‑how to secure jobs or launch their own ventures.

  • Community‑Centred Projects

From solar‑powered irrigation pumps for farmers to clean‑cooking pilots in mangrove areas, we co‑create solutions with local leaders, especially women’s groups and neighbourhood associations. This ensures projects meet real needs and stay in the community long after installation.

  • Support Beyond Training

Training is just the beginning. We provide mentorship, small‑grant guidance, and peer networks that help alumni—regardless of age or income background which turn ideas into viable, locally led social enterprises.

We’re proud of what we’ve achieved so far, but we know there’s so much more to do. If you share our vision, we’d love you to join us. Together, we can create a future where everyone has the power to thrive.
